Password protect a folder in windows......
There are quite a few ways to password protect your folders in windows , but most of them rely on pricey , third party software .Below we have listed a couple of ways to password protect a folder ; one without using any third party software and the second one using a free third party software.
NOTE: please follow the steps given below carefully , we at techinfors are not liable for any damage or any loss of data done by you.
- Create a new folder and name it anything ( we are going to name the new folder private )
- Open the folder and make a new text document in this folder. Go to this link Password and copy/paste the code in this opened text document.
- Don`t close the document , now find " PASSWORD_GOES_HERE " in the code you pasted and replace it with the password you want . It should look like " If NOT %pass%==0123 goto fail ". Here 0123 is the password
- Go to save as by clicking the file option in the title bar .
- Change the file type from " TEXT DOCUMENT.txt " to " ALL FILES " and change the name of the text document to " LOCKER.bat " and save the file
- Go inside the folder that was created in the first step , open locker.bat and a new folder called private will start showing up .
- To unlock it , double click locker.bat and enter the previously specified password.
Through this method , your private folder will only be visible when you launch locker.bat and enter the correct password . We would suggest creating this folder in less obvious location . And don`t worry , the text document ( in which you entered the password ) that resides beside the locker.bat file will appear to be empty if opened later on ( by you or any other nosy person )
